Aunt Elva

Being on the other side of the world from my family I just found out that my Great Aunt Elva died. She had been suffering with another bout of cancer. My Aunt Elva has and is one of our family favorites. She was always blunt, to the point and hilarious. She was also almost 100% blind. One time we went out to lunch with her. She had on a sweat shirt that had the L sticker for large size right on her boob. (She couldn't see it). When my mom told her about it she just said, "oh no honey I was just labeling my chest size". I loved her when I was little because every time we went out with her she would buy me my horoscope rolled up in those little tubes. She wasn't a typical sweet grandma like lady. She was the person that would actually say the things that everyone was thinking but that no one had the guts to say. I didn't get to see her that much, but I will miss hearing updates of funny things she said and did. Now Layton Utah is far less colorful and diverse without her there.

Masan Fish Market 마산 옷시장 and other randomness

Last Saturday we went to Masan to go to the
fish market there.
We had been there last year, but wanted to go
again before we left Korea.

This is Boo in front of his dream department
store. 고기 means meat, and 백화 점 means
department store.

Umm pig head......

These are a certain kind of wood chip used in
oriental medicine.

More oriental medicine ingredients.
Mostly roots, wood chips and herbs.

The market is enormous. It goes on forever.

After wards we
cooked up the fish we bought,
my favorite fish 고둥어 mackerel and had a feast.
In other news....
Juny still rules as dictator of our house.
Spring is in full bloom.

And Juny and I were lucky enough to get caught in a
flash storm while I was on a walk with her about a mile
away from our apartment.

World Classic Baseball...yes I'm not happy.

There are some things that make me so embarrassed about America.
In Asia Americans are generally perceived as being lazy. Because well, compared to Korean culture we ARE lazy. To emphasize that fact the USA world classic baseball team showed supreme examples of just how lazy we can be. Watching right fielder Adam Dunn made me remember how I played softball when I was 11. Only I was 11 and did not get paid big money, nor was I "representing" my country. Had USA gone to the finals I still would have wanted Korea to win. I am surprised to see he even moved this much. My rant part two is how dirty Japan played today against Korea for the first place. There is a lot of animosity and history between Korea and Japan. The lack of sportsmanship on Japan's part makes me sick to my stomach. Here is Nakajima sliding into Ko Yong Min 고영민, grabbing his leg trying to stop him from making a double play. Here Lee Yong Gyu 이용규 was sliding into second base. Japan's player on second Kneed him in the head with such force that it broke his helmet. Now 이용규's eyes are all swollen. Ichiro Suzuki the player, who in the top of the 10th hit a 2 run RBI for Japan has been quoted as saying, that Korean baseball is 30 years behind Japan's. After the game today with the 3-5 score he was quoted as saying, "I must have something special that's a God given gift." As for me I know who the real winners are...
Boo and I like these photo shopped pictures of the
Japanese player.

Catching up

Just to catch up on past couple weeks....

Juny and I learned how to read each other's minds.

Boo's brother Yong Ha and his family came for a short visit.
Hyung Jun spent the day working out.

While Yeo Jin supervised

We finally went to this mall that is close to our house.
The architecture is intresting.

They also have tigers there.

And the real reason I always wanted to go
are because of these atomically correct statues.

We discovered a new kind of 떡 (rice cake).
They put it in the leaves and leaves marinate the
떡. Ummmm

We now like to go hiking to a different mountain
each Saturday.

Our family portrait.

Our baby

Boo and Juny at the Summit.

Slumdog millionaire part 2

That's right! Boo got a scholar ship for graduate school!
We knew nothing about it until we got a package from my
Parents with an un-opened letter from Monterrey.
Okay so maybe it is not One million dollars, it's
more like One Million dollars minus a couple or so Zero's.
We are happy because we hadn't heard any news back
and just assumed that there were no scholarships.

Anyways Speaking of Millionaires.
We were finally able to watch Slumdog Millionaire.
I really liked this movie. I am thinking if the movie was that
good the book must be ten times better.
I was also thinking how much plastic surgery it would
take for me to look like her. Once I get one of those million
dollar bills I think I will try it out.

A picture of Boo

I found this in one of Boo's photo files.
This was taken before Boo and I met.

Updates

Here are some updates of last week.
Most importantly SPRING IS HERE!!
I really hate the end of winter when it is cold and everything
is dead. But finally spring has arrived.
Spring in Korea is beautiful. By the time My sister Jenn and her
boyfriend Scott come spring will be in full bloom.

Juny made a new friend with a male Jindo dog.
This dog looks really mean, but it was really sweet and friendly.
We named it 신사 (Shin Saw) or Gentleman.
He is ten years old but still does not have a name.

We also went hiking on Saturday. We have
always wanted to climb to the top of
this mountain in back of our apartment.
It took about three hours but we finally
did it.

Juny came with us and had a great time!

This sign says, "Danger do not swim,
the lake is deep and dangerous"
The lake is in back of us, or should I say
at one time was in back of us. Now it
is just a big pile of mud.

On the way down the mountain we met some goats.
Juny wanted to become friends, but the goats were a
little scared of her.
Even though I am wearing the same clothes this is
a different small hike we went on. We are standing in a
barrack that the Korean government made in case of war.
