Englishee Village

So Korean government thought that
it would be a good
idea to create a tiny village
where everyone is only aloud to
speak English,
(Or Englishee) as pronounced in Korea.
All the buildings
are modeled after different European cities.
All the
employees have to speak English the entire time.

Needless to say it did not get anyone closer to becoming
more fluent in English.
Boo Excited to arrive in English village.Eun Yong and Yong Mun in Europe...
No I mean English Village.

Willie Comes to Korea!!

We got to see Willie Nelson when he came to Korea.
He was great! We had front row seats.
Besides the fact that he came via DVD
of "Willie in Concert" it was almost as if he was
really there. We watched it at Mun's work on a really big screen
and wonderful sound system.

Art

We went to an art village in Seoul.
There was certain requirements for all the housing there.
The houses could not be painted or fenced in. The artist
got to design their own studios. They were allowed to
live in part of the building they created if they wanted to.

This was one of my favorite houses.
There were huge rabbits inside this cadge.
The creator had everyone who came to visit create
their own painting to hang on the rabbit cadge.
Mine was of a Cat and of a Sun.
Get it? Cat Son (my name). It is the one above
my right shoulder.

Yong Boo and Yong Mun showing off
their softer side.

We almost look like the Korean Brady Bunch

Some of the cool buildings in the art village.

I'm thinking to buy this couch.

Our Trip to The DMZ

We went to the DMZ Zone.
It was not exactly what CNN reports make it sound like.
Something about the amusement park right along the
dividing line made it not seem all that scary.
I was however able to make about 45 Kim Jong Ill jokes.

These are all post-it notes in the last train stop in
South Korea. The post-it note messages range from
autographs, requests for peace and drawings by
small children.

Here's an amusement park right on the
dividing line. Nothing like a nice roller coaster ride!!
The idea is that North Korea will look over into South
Korea and see how much more fun it is on the other side.
Tons of people were flying Kites here as well.
This is exactly where the train stopped
during the Korean
War.
The bumper cars attached to the train have been converted
into stores and restaurants.Boo and I with North Korea in the background.

This is the bridge where over 12,000 South Korean
Prisoners of war returned to South Korea during the Korean war.
People have posted notes of hope for unification
and peace.
This display was called "The Stones
of Peace" wall. Stones were collected from
battle fields all over the world. They brought them all together
in hopes that it could become a stepping stone for
Reconciliation with North Korea.

Here is a train coming into South Korea from North Korea.
You have to get special permission to ride it.

Boo looking dashing in font of a tank.

Shopping in Seoul

When in Seoul one of the most important things to do
is go shopping. It is more like going to an art show.

Here are some strange Butterflies

A chandelier I want
A man making rice cakes the traditional
way. It was fun to watch.

This building was fantastic. Each floor was built on
a slope. So as you walked around you slowly worked your
way up to the next floor.

These were a bunch of resources someone set up
protesting the Olympics in China this summer.

Fishing On Children's Day

We also went fishing a little bit on children's day.
With as many fish that were jumping, we were
not able to catch any. We took this video
for my Dad.
On the other side of the river was an orchard and
a mountain range. It was really pretty.

Here Boo is using a supper long fishing pole.
It has no real and a very short line on it.
You just kind of fling the line as far as you can.
When I tried it I almost knocked three people into the river.
So it is not a very good idea for clumsy people.

Children's Day

May 5Th was children's day in Korea.
I love Children's day mainly because it means a
day off of work for me. It is basically the equivalent
to an American kids birthday. The kids get
attention all day from their parents, they get money,
toys etc.

A very descriptive bathroom sign.

Hyun Woo waiting for some cotton candy. We spent the day with our boss's family.
We went up into the mountains to a
Buddhist Temple.

I could not resist taking a picture of Nuns at the
Buddhist temple.

The Pyo Choong Sa was one of my favorite temples
I saw so far in Korea. It was pretty recluse and
was more decorative than the other temples I have been to.

It is said that if you build a rock tower seven stones high
your wish will come true.

The mountains from this area were really
beautiful.

Buddha's Birthday Part One

Last Saturday marked the beginning of Buddha's
Birthday celebrations. This Monday May 12Th is his
official birthday. In Chang won there was an
early celebration in the center of the city.

This was one of my favorite floats.
Here is Boo in front of the party. I was able to score
some free books on Buddhism, Buddhist philosophy
printed on paper with a special handmade printing press
and coloring pages of Buddha for Alex and Emma.
In the words of my Mom, "SCORE!!"

The year of the Mouse

Lotus Lanterns

The Towns mascots Aliens Chongy and Wonie.
Ohh and Boo.

Balloon Buddha

A gigantic fish

Boo playing volleyball with one of the lanterns.
The lanterns are hung all around the city.

This was Boo's favorite float.
